It's my understanding that your Kindle app is getting stuck on the initializing screen. I do have some suggestions that may help. First, force-quit the app: How to force an app to quit
and restart your MacBook Air. Then check to see if there are any updates. Make sure to have a stable data connection as well.
If the issue still persists, try a test user account and safe mode:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac
Another possible solution can be to delete the app and download it again but before doing that I would make sure you have your data backed up. I would also recommend reaching out to the developer of the app before going through that process as well.

My Kindle Mac App Offline
After grabbing it from the Mac App Store, Kindle for Mac will sync up your library of content and allow you to start reading straight away. The app's buttoned menu bar provides access to all the standard functions of a Kindle app, including manipulating presentation styles, bookmarking pages and searching. Since the Kindle App for my Mac updated to support the beta IOS El Capitan it's seriously faulty! Crashes, mostly crashes. When I get it to stay open for awhile, It shows fairly new stuff only, and just notifies of a failed download on ALL new books.
